TANTALUM

Tantalum is a dark grey metal known for its most corrosive resistant property due to the formation of oxide film and used in highly acidic environment such as acetic, nitric, sulphuric and hydrochloric acid. It has a very high melting point as compared to all elements except tungsten. It is highly ductile and malleable, therefore can be drawn in to thin wire. It is used for its benefits such as longer equipment life and elevated operational temperature.

Applications: Tantalum is widely used in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries for the fabrication of piping systems, reactors, high temperature vacuum furnace, heat exchanger and thermocouple protection sheaths. It is also used in manufacturing of medical instruments and implants since it does not react with body tissue or fluids. Besides these it is also used in the electronic industry.
