Titanium Grade 2, Commercially Pure, UNS R50400

Titanium Grade 2 also known as commercially pure titanium as it comprises of more than 99% titanium along with other elements like iron, oxygen, carbon etc. It is characterized by excellent corrosion resistance with moderate strength, low weight, high ductility and good weldability is desired. The microstructure properties are not greatly affected by thermal treatments or welding temperatures since it is single phase material substantially. Hence the mechanical properties of a good weld joint are equal to or may exceed to those of the parent metal and provide good formability.

Applications: Grade 2 is mainly found in heat transfer applications for which cooling medium is seawater or polluted water. It is widely used in manufacturing condensers, tube heat exchangers, shell, and frame heat exchanger in power plants, refineries, chemical plants, offshore platforms, surface ships and submarines. It is also used in Medical division for surgical devices, implants and centrifuges as it is the most biocompatible metals of all due to its resistance to attack body fluids.
